About ABSE
Welcome to Annals of Biomedical Science and Engineering (ABSE), an international open access, peer-reviewed journal dedicated to advancing the fields of biomedical science and engineering. Established under Heighten Science Publications Inc., ABSE aims to provide a global forum to disseminate high-quality research that bridges engineering, applied sciences, and healthcare.
Mission, Vision & Focus
ABSE is committed to publishing rigorous, innovative, and impactful research across the intersection of biomedical science and engineering. The journal supports the translation of novel technologies, methodologies, and insights into health and medicine. Our vision is to foster interdisciplinary collaboration and to drive forward developments that benefit both basic research and clinical application.
Our editorial scope includes, but is not limited to, these focus areas:
- Biomaterials, bioengineering, and tissue engineering
- Biomedical imaging, instrumentation, and devices
- Cellular and molecular engineering, including synthetic biology
- Biomechanics, mechanobiology, and modeling
- Nanomedicine and nanotechnology applications in health
- Systems biology, computational modeling, and bioinformatics
- Biomedical signal processing, sensors, wearable devices, and IoT in healthcare
- Translational research, diagnostics, therapeutic engineering, and telehealth
We welcome original research articles, comprehensive reviews, short communications, methodological advances, and case studies that align with our mission.

We also welcome submissions that engage emerging cross-disciplinary areas such as AI in healthcare, mHealth, wearable sensors, and integrative multi-omics engineering.
How We Operate
ABSE employs a rigorous but fair peer review workflow:
- Preliminary Editorial Check: Submissions are screened for fit, originality, ethical compliance, and formatting.
- Double-Blind Peer Review: At least two independent reviewers are appointed; authors and reviewers remain anonymous.
- Revision & Decision: Authors receive comments and may submit revised versions; final decision made by editors.
- Production & Publication: Accepted papers are copyedited, typeset, assigned DOIs, and published online immediately in an issue.
We aim for transparency in timelines and revision rounds, and authors can monitor their submission status via our platform.
Quality Assurance & Ethical Standards
Ethical integrity is central to ABSE’s mission. Our policies align with international guidelines, including:
- Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE)
- International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE)
- World Association of Medical Editors (WAME)
- Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) principles
We enforce strict policies on authorship, conflicts of interest, data transparency, plagiarism screening using tools like iThenticate, and corrections or retractions in case of misconduct.
