Indexing & Archiving
Annals of Biomedical Science and Engineering (ABSE) ensures maximum visibility, discoverability, and long-term accessibility of all published articles by partnering with leading indexing services and digital preservation systems. Our goal is to guarantee that every article remains permanently accessible, citable, and verifiable in accordance with international publishing standards.
Indexing Services
Articles published in ABSE are indexed and abstracted in recognized international databases and directories, ensuring academic visibility and citation tracking. The journal continuously expands its coverage to include both domain-specific and multidisciplinary databases.
| Indexing Service | Description / Coverage |
|---|---|
| Google Scholar | Automatic indexing of all ABSE articles with citation tracking and author metrics. |
| Index Copernicus Value (ICV) | Evaluated with ICV 82.62 (2023), reflecting journal quality and regularity. |
| CrossRef | Each article is registered with a unique DOI for permanent linking and metadata validation. |
| WorldCat | Library catalog integration enabling institutional discoverability worldwide. |
| OpenAIRE | Compliant with European Open Science standards for data transparency. |
| ResearchGate / Academia.edu | Supported for author self-archiving and community engagement (non-exclusive). |
| Google Dataset Search | For papers including accessible datasets under FAIR data principles. |
| Dimensions / Semantic Scholar | Indexed for research analytics, citation impact, and machine-readable metadata. |
Archiving and Digital Preservation
ABSE is committed to the long-term preservation of scholarly content. All published papers are archived in trusted digital preservation systems to ensure enduring accessibility even in the event of data loss or platform changes.
- Portico — ABSE deposits full-text XML and PDF files with Portico for secure, permanent archiving.
- SHERPA/RoMEO — The journal participates in this repository registry for transparency in author self-archiving rights.
- LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe) — Partner libraries create distributed backup copies for preservation.
- CLOCKSS — Provides additional redundancy by archiving content across institutional repositories.
Self-Archiving Policy
Authors are encouraged to self-archive their works in institutional repositories, personal websites, or subject-based repositories immediately after publication. The following versions may be shared:
- Submitted version: allowed before peer review.
- Accepted version: allowed immediately after acceptance (with DOI citation).
- Published version (PDF): allowed with citation and CC BY 4.0 license statement.
“ABSE believes that open preservation is an ethical responsibility to ensure continuous access to scientific knowledge for generations to come.”
Metadata Standards
All ABSE publications are enriched with detailed metadata conforming to CrossRef, Dublin Core, and OAI-PMH (Open Archives Initiative Protocol for Metadata Harvesting) formats. This ensures interoperability with indexing databases and repository harvesters.
- OAI-PMH Endpoint: https://www.biomedscijournal.com/index/oai
- Metadata Format: Dublin Core / MARC21
- DOI Prefix: 10.29328 (CrossRef registered prefix)
Commitment to Open Science
In alignment with the Budapest Open Access Initiative (BOAI) and Plan S principles, ABSE supports open research practices and promotes data sharing, preprint posting, and transparent peer review. The journal welcomes submissions that reference preprints hosted on arXiv, bioRxiv, or other recognized repositories.
Indexing Progress and Future Goals
The editorial team continually works toward inclusion in leading international databases such as:
- Scopus (application under process)
- Web of Science (ESCI evaluation stage)
- PubMed Central (for biomedical relevance)
- DOAJ (Directory of Open Access Journals)
- EMBASE and INSPEC (for biomedical and engineering indexing)
Updates on indexing progress are published periodically in the Announcements section of the website.
How Indexing Benefits Authors
- Enhances citation potential and global discoverability.
- Improves academic credibility and impact metrics (h-index, Altmetrics).
- Ensures compliance with funder mandates for open access dissemination.
- Facilitates integration with institutional repositories and research data systems.
